If you consume anything that is a plant or plant based, and if it is baked or cooked in anyway, you’ve likely heard the term acrylamide. High amounts of this chemical is commonly associated with cancer. However, let’s not be overestimating its properties. Most people consume a safe level of acrylamide; it’s present in foods like toast, roasted asparagus, potato chips , and even roasted coffee.
More so, most of the studies in which acrylamide caused cancer were in animals, and the acrylamide levels were far higher than would ever be present in food. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean you should try to reduce your consumption of acrylamides, which is significantly higher in foods cooked at very high temperatures (french fries, burnt toast, instant coffee). Moderation is always key.
