As of Sept. 29, over 400 Starbucks locations have closed across the United States as the Seattle-based coffee retailer aims to implement operational changes.
The closures are part of the “Back to Starbucks” strategy, instituted by its CEO Brian Niccol, the former Chipotle CEO who left to become Starbucks’ chief executive in September 2024.
The coffee chain did not provide a list of U.S. locations that would be closing, but the company is expected to have roughly 18,300 coffee shops by the end of September, down from 18,734, according to its most recent quarterly earnings report.
