After having seen Netflix’s Guinness TV series, I’ve been craving a Guinness since. I finally scored on the classic Guinness Nitro Stout—a stout that features little to no carbonation (the Nitrogen gas escapes upon opening the can) and is ‘creamy smooth ‘ once served. A Guinness Nitro Stout is not for everyone—it’s a very dark, bitter beer, getting much of its flavor from roasted malts. These roasted malts lend a roasted coffee flavor to the beer, almost as if sipping black coffee served cold. This beer of course lacks coffee entirely; it merely uses beer alchemy to obtain a wide variety of flavors.

However, there’s plenty of stouts that incorporate sugar (in the form of lactose, as the fermentation process in beer doesn’t break down lactose), milk, and even real coffee. To no surprise, Guinness makes a specialty stout that features real coffee: Nitro Cold Brew Coffee. I’ll have to try that soon to follow-up this post.
