Why is Guarana?

By “Why is Guarana”, hopefully you understood it as my poor attempt at referencing the “Why is Gamora” phrase famously uttered by Drax in the Avengers. But seriously, what the Guarana? Guarana is yet another plant that produces caffeine, and apparently, packs more caffeine than the coffee bean (sources say anywhere from 2-8% for guarana and 1-3% for coffee). You’ve likely read its name on energy drinks (if you’re paying attention) as being one of the sources of caffeine. It may even lend some of its flavor, which is supposedly fruity, perhaps with a bubblegum-like taste. Its higher content of caffeine and better flavor integration with energy drinks already makes it ideal for the market it’s in, but Guarana also has another trait: Slower caffeine absorption. This makes for a sustained boost, rather than a spike and crash effect with coffee.
