The science of slurping

If you’re a big noodle eater like me, or know those that eat noodles, you most likely are familiar with the noise and practice of slurping noodles. While some take it as being ‘rude’, slurping noodles is a means of cooling down very hot noodles so that they may be enjoyed immediately, not in several minutes. The same principle applies to slurping coffee, using the air to cool down the usually scalding liquid to non-burning. There’s a bit more to not burning your tongue too; since slurping aerates the coffee, it also helps to pick up more flavors. This is also why some wine drinkers slurp their wine as well.
